Derby County boss Frank Lampard has confirmed that he opted against the decision to sign Villa target John Terry because of the club’s wage budget.
Speaking to reporters, as shown on Sky Sports News, Lampard reveals that he had to prioritise moving players on over the summer to give him enough flexibility both in his squad and the transfer market.
The Rams took the decision to sell on Matej Vydra this summer for big money, with the deal allowing Lampard the funds to put his own stamp on the squad, in what was a busy summer of transfer business.
Terry has been heavily linked with a move to Derby as he continues to ponder his next move.

The ex-Chelsea captain rejected a move to Russia and remains a target for Steve Bruce, but a potential deal does not appear to be any closer.
Villa remain short of defensive options at the back and could still pursue a move for the experienced free agent.
