Steve Bruce has dropped a big hint that Aston Villa could reignite their interest in Aberdeen defender Scott McKenna in the summer.
According to a report from the Evening Express, Bruce confirmed that the club made a move for the player, but were met with a firm answer that the player is not for sale.
Bruce draws comparisons to Tottenham’s pursuit of Jack Grealish and how they refused to sell the player.
I spoke to Derek McInnes 10 days before (the window closed). But the stance was that he wasn’t for sale.
It was like us with (Jack) Grealish – he wasn’t for sale in this window. We didn’t like to hear that, but a bit like what we did with Jack, they did with Scott McKenna. He is someone we have had a look at, Scott. But there are two or three other players in Scotland we have been looking at as well. We will see what develops.

Villa had been searching for a new central defender throughout the summer after losing John Terry.
McKenna was one of the many players to be linked with a move to Villa Park, with suggestions a £7 million bid was made.
Aberdeen are fully aware interest in the defender is mounting, with Celtic also having a bid for the player rejected during the summer transfer window.
