Concern growing as Villa could face huge points deduction

Aston Villa are at risk of being deducted 12 Championship points next season if they are found to be in breach of financial fair play rules, according to the Bristol Post.

The Championship club have found themselves in a financial mess during the summer transfer window due to new ownership and the issue is still causing concern for everyone at the club.

Villa are set to face charges for breaking the spending cap which has been set under the English Football League’s profit and sustainability rules.

The Bristol Post quotes a report on the Times as saying:

Villa have posted an aggregate loss of £37.1 million during their two seasons in the second tier, giving them very little room to comply with rules that permit losses of £39 million over a three-year period before submitting their next results to the EFL in March.

Villa have had fewer transfer proceeds this season compared to last season and this could very well make their situation worse.

If Villa breaches the EFL terms by more than £15m over three years then they are likely to face a 12 point deduction.

Steve Bruce’s side have started this season pretty poorly and were tipped to push for promotion to the Premier League. Some Villa fans are calling for Bruce to be sacked already and unfortunately for everyone involved, the club isn’t in the best place at the moment.
