Henry could be appointed at Villa within a matter of days

Former Arsenal striker Thierry Henry could be appointed at Aston Villa within a matter of days, according to the Daily Mail.

Henry is reportedly emerging as the number one contender to replace Bruce, who was sacked on Wednesday afternoon after a 3-3 draw at home to Preston.

The Belgium number two was heavily linked with the Villa post during the summer, but the new owners opted to remain with Bruce after his success at the club last season.

Henry has since been interviewed for the Bordeaux job, but he decided against the position in Ligue 1.

Naseef Sawiris wants to make a high-profile appointment, with both John Terry and Paulo Fonseca among the names being linked with the position.

The 41-year-old has never hidden his intention of making it into management and could now finally take his first steps.

Villa be hoping to make a swift appointment as they aim to get their season back on track.
