Midfielder John McGinn described reports linking Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers with the vacant Villa job as ‘ironic’.
The Celtic boss has been linked with the position after the Hoops’ poor start to the season.
John Terry is also being heavily linked with the job after announcing his retirement from the game.
It was Rodgers who was rivalling Villa in the race to sign McGinn his summer from Hibernian.
The Hoops were very keen to sign the player who is a well known Celtic fan, but Villa managed to beat the club to his services.
Speaking about the possibility of working under Rodgers at Villa, as reported by the Express and Star, McGinn revealed that he will be out to impress whoever takes the job.
It’s ironic, isn’t it? You never know what’s going to happen. But I think Brendan came out the other day and said he’s happy at Celtic, he’s got a job to do.
It would be unfair of me to comment on that too much and fuel the rumours. What will be, will be. If it is Brendan, or if is someone else, I’ll soon see. Hopefully, whoever comes in, I’ll be able to impress them.
McGinn has impressed since joining the club, quickly becoming a hit with the fans for his performances and the spectacular goal he scored against Sheffield Wednesday earlier this season.
