Villa aiming to beat Championship rivals to winger who could join for free

Aston Villa will reportedly rival fellow Championship side Swansea City for Northern Ireland international Jordan Jones.

The Daily Mail reports that both clubs are keen to sign the Kilmarnock winger who could arrive for nothing in the summer.

Jones is out of contract with the Scottish club at the end of the season and he’ll be free to discuss a summer move to the Championship in January.

The winger was heavily linked with moves to England over the summer, with Norwich among the teams that tried to sign him.

Steven Gerrard’s Rangers also had a big money bid turned down for the player and could yet revive their interest.

Swansea, who could launch a move to sign the player in January, were said to have scouts watching Jones on international duty over the weekend.

After rejecting Rangers’ £350,000 bid in the summer, Kilmarnock could cash in during the January window to avoid losing him for nothing.
