Aston Villa are said to be interested in a January deal to sign Brentford midfielder Romaine Sawyers.
According to Football Insider, Dean Smith could launch a raid on his former side in the January transfer window.
Smith is said to be keen on bringing the player to Villa Park in the new year as he looks to bolster his midfield options.
The middle of the park is an area that Smith feels his current squad is lacking and believes that his former Brentford player could be a viable option.
Brentford are understandably keen to keep hold of Sawyers and would not want to lose a key player to their former manager.
Sawyers was something of a favourite under Smith during his time with the Bees.
It was Smith who signed him for Brentford having worked with Sawyers previously during his time at Walsall and the now Villa boss clearly knows what he likes.
