According to a report by Football Insider, Aston Villa are interested in signing Frederic Guilbert from Ligue 1 side Caen.
The 24-year old prefers to play at right-back, but, if need be, he is comfortable playing in any position along the backline. This can be seen from the fact that he has played 12 matches at right-back, 5 matches as a centre-back, and 1 match at left-back for Caen this season.
It is believed that Guilbert is very keen on a move to Villa Park, and Caen, who are just one point above relegation, might have no choice but to part ways with their highly-rated defender this month, especially if Villa put in a juicy offer for him.
Dean Smith is desperate to improve his defensive options before the transfer window closes at the end of the month as his side have been leaking goals. In fact, a quick look at the Championship table will reveal that only Sheffield Wednesday, Preston North End, and Ipswich Town have conceded more goals than Smith’s side.
