Carroll and Chester both to miss Brentford clash

Dean Smith will be without both Tom Carroll and James Chester for the game against his former side Brentford tonight.

BBC Sport confirm that both players will be missing on Wednesday night at Griffin Park.

Carroll remains sidelined after suffering an injury against Reading on his debut after joining the club on loan from Swansea City.

Smith will be aiming to have Carroll back in the near future after bringing him in from the Welsh side.

Like Carroll, Chester also missed the game against Sheffield United and will once again watch from the sidelines against Brentford.

A knee problem has ruled the Welsh defender out and the club are not willing to risk him.

Brentford come into the game in good form but Villa will be hoping to come out on top in a bid to close the gap between themselves and the final play-off spot.

Going into the game, Villa are seven points behind Middlesbrough in sixth and have played an extra game.
