Aston Villa scouts were in Belgium this weekend to watch Mouscron take on Cercle Brugge, with suggestions that Liverpool youngster Taiwo Awoniyi was on their radar.

According to local outlet La Derniere Heure, as cited on the Birmingham Mail, Villa were among the many teams to send scouts to the game.

AC Milan, VfL Wolfsburg, Dinamo Zagreb and RC Lens also had officials there watching the game, according to the report.

It has not been confirmed that Awoniyi was, in fact, the player on their radar, but the young striker has been impressing this season, scoring four goals in five games for the Belgian side, so it wouldn’t be hard to see why his performances are gathering attention.

Among the other names mentioned in the report, Jean Butez and midfielder Manuel Benson are also considered as potential targets for the aforementioned list of clubs.

Villa have shown in recent months that they are planning for the future by signing highly-rated youngsters and it looks like preparations are already well underway for the summer window.
