Aston Villa, thanks to John McGinn’s brace and Kourtney Hause’s first goal for the club, beat Nottingham Forest 3-1 on Wednesday to make it 9 points from their last 3 games.
They will be looking to make that 12 points on Saturday when Tony Pulis brings his Middlesbrough side to Villa Park.
If Dean Smith’s men can make it four wins in a row, they could see themselves move into the play-off places for the first time in a long while – the 18th of September was the last time that Villa were in the top six.
Smith’s side won 3-0 the last time these two teams met and if Villa play how they have been playing of late, we could see a similar scoreline on Saturday afternoon, especially as Middlesbrough have had a dip in form (they’ve picked up one point from their last three matches).
Here is our predicted Villa XI for Saturday’s match against Middlesbrough:
GK: Jed Steer
Has had barely anything to do in the last three matches, so we reckon he will keep his place this weekend.
RB: Ahmed Elmohamady
As villa’s only available right-back, he will certainly be starting. Has been playing well lately as well.
CB: Tyrone Mings
Mings has been absolutely unbelievable for Villa since he joined in January. There’s no way he won’t be starting on Saturday.
CB: Kourtney Hause
Hause is starting to show us all what he is capable of and has formed a solid partnership with Mings.
LB: Neil Taylor
He gets a lot of stick from Villa fans, but he has been playing well lately and should start at left back at the weekend.
RM: Albert Adomah
Was on the bench against Forest, but with Green struggling to make an impact, we reckon Adomah will start.
CM: Conor Hourihane
Played a more defensive role against Forest and put in a decent shift. Therefore, we expect him to be asked to do the same against Middlesbrough this weekend.
CM: John Mcginn
McGinn has got to be the bargain of the season. He was fantastic once again against Forest on Wednesday and will certainly be starting on Saturday.
CM: Jack Grealish
As Villa’s star player, it’s safe to say that Grealish will be starting against Middlesbrough.
LM: Anwar El Ghazi
El Ghazi hasn’t been that great of late, but as Villa are lacking in wide players, we expect him to start once again.
ST: Tammy Abraham
Had an off day on Wednesday, but that will definitely not see him drop to the bench.
