Aston Villa have activated the clause in Anwar El Ghazi’s contract that allows them to buy him on a permanent deal from Lille.
An article in L’Equipe, relayed on Get Football News France, says that ten days on from securing their place back in the Premier League, Villa have now opted to buy the winger who played a big part in helping them get there.
El Ghazi initially joined Villa on a one-year loan deal last summer and played a prominent role under Dean Smith, featuring 34 times.
The Dutchman scored six goals and assisted a further eight in 2018/19, with one of those goals the opener in the play-off final to set Villa on their way to a 2-1 win over Frank Lampard’s Derby County.
El Ghazi was also named Man of the Match at Wembley.
It was always likely that he would remain at Villa Park for next season, with the player publicly stating he wanted to stay with the Midlands club.
Aston Villa will have to pay £8 million for the attacker, and the deal is expected to be complete within the next 24 hours.
