Aston Villa target Joe Aribo has opened talks over a summer transfer with Scottish Premiership side Rangers, according to reports.
Villa have been linked with a move for some time now and had hoped their promotion to the Premier League would be enough to convince him to move to the club.
However, a report from The Scottish Daily Mail, as cited by Football Scotland, suggests that Rangers are current favourites to land Aribo having opened talks with the player and his agent.
The midfielder’s contract with Charlton Athletic, who gained promotion the Championship last season, expires at the end of this month and although a new deal is on the table for him at The Valley, he looks set to be on the move.
There are a whole host of clubs said to be interested in Aribo, with Celtic, Southampton and Eintracht Frankfurt just some of the other names linked with a move for the player.
It is Steven Gerrard’s Rangers team who are currently at the front of the queue for his signature, though, and will be hopeful that the promising Englishman will choose to join them after these latest developments.
