According to Claret and Hugh, cited by Forever West Ham, Aston Villa made a late move for West Ham-bound midfielder Pablo Fornals.
The 23-year-old featured 35 times for Villarreal last season and is reportedly on the verge of signing for the Hammers.
Villa’s late interest for the attacking midfielder put pressure on the Hammers to get the player and the deal is now all but done as the decision remains up to the player whether he wants to play for the London club.
The deal is thought to be worth around £24 million and should Fornals want to join, a deal could go through in the next 48 hours.
Despite Villa’s interest, it does seem likely that the Spanish international will sign for West Ham.
With Villa already having a creative midfielder in captain Jack Grealish, a striker to fill the role of Tammy Abraham, an experienced goalkeeper and a holding midfielder appear to be on the list of targets for Dean Smith ahead of the new season.
Four signings Villa may make this summer
Butland will be keen to leave Stoke City following what was a poor season for the Potters.
The once England number one will be keen to get back to the Premier League.
Villa only need to look across the City to find a striker who can fill the void left by Tammy Abraham.
The pacey Blues striker scored 22 times last season and will be keen to test himself in the Premier League.
Despite Cardiff’s relegation, the goalkeeper had a fantastic season with the Bluebirds and won the Player of the Year award.
With Villa in need of a goalkeeper, Etheridge would be the perfect goalkeeper to bring to Villa Park.
Villa are desperate to sign the defender who was vital to their promotion campaign.
The defender is currently at Bournemouth and has a lot of clubs eyeing up a move.
