Liverpool and Arsenal join Villa in Targett race

Southampton defender Matt Targett is a player who Aston Villa want to sign this summer, but according to claims from TEAMtalk, they will face competition from both Liverpool and Arsenal.

Dean Smith is interested in the 23-year-old to improve his defence ahead of the club’s first season back in the Premier League, with the manager keen to add to his current options on the left-hand side.

Villa, however, have competition with top-six Premier League side Arsenal and Champions League winners Liverpool, as they are both reportedly interested in the defender.

Jurgen Klopp wants Targett as competition for Andy Robertson, and Unai Emery is interested in the Saints defender as he wants to introduce younger players into his squad.

With top teams interested, Aston Villa may find it harder to sign Targett than they originally thought it would be.

However, with first-team football likely to be on offer under Smith as opposed to at the aforementioned clubs, the left-back appears to have a decision on his hands.
