Aston Villa have been dealt a blow in their pursuit of Brentford striker Neal Maupay, with the 22-year-old in talks with La Liga side Sevilla.
According to L’Équipe, cited by GFFN, Sevilla reportedly met with the forward’s representatives over the weekend ahead of a possible summer move.
The 22-year-old has found the back of the net with ease during his two-year stint with the Bees, netting 41 times in 95 appearances in all competitions, with 28 of Maupay’s goals coming last season.
Maupay has been linked with numerous Premier League sides, including Aston Villa, who have already bolstered their attacking options for next season.
Dean Smith’s side have secured the services of Jota, Anwar El Ghazi and Wesley Moraes in recent weeks, however, Villa are still thought to be willing to add to their attacking ranks.
Maupay is thought to be still on Villa’s radar, however, following the latest news, they may now face an uphill battle to bring the Frenchman to Villa Park.
Four more Championship stars Villa could target
Nottingham Forrest winger Lolley was involved in 22 goals last season, including a stunning solo display against Villa in a 5-5 draw. The 26-year-old is valued at £15m by Forest.
Holding midfielder Phillips is thought to be high on Villa’s list this summer. Villa reportedly had a £14m offer ready for the Leeds United man in recent weeks.
West Brom striker Rodriguez looks set to depart the Hawthorns for a low fee this summer and would bring much needed Premier League experience to Villa Park.
Hull City’s Bowen is another who Villa may target to bolster their attacking options this summer. The 22-year-old can play out wide or in a more central role.
