Aston Villa are reportedly leading the race to sign Zimbabwe midfielder Marvelous Nakamba this summer.
According to Zimbabwe outlet The Chronicle, Villa are thought to ready to splash £20m on the energetic midfielder, who currently plies his trade with Belgian giants Club Brugge.
Boss Dean Smith looks to be keen on bolstering his options in the middle of the park this summer after recently releasing the experienced Glenn Whelan and Mile Jedinak.
Leeds’ Kalvin Phillips has been heavily linked with a £14m move to the Midlands, however, the Whites star appears to be content in Yorkshire.
The powerful 25-year-old now appears to be Villa’s next midfield target, with the club keeping a close eye on Nakamba’s performances for his country at the Africa Cup of Nations over the coming weeks.
Villa look set to face fierce competition from Newcastle, Watford and Serie A side Atalanta for Nakamba’s services, however, securing a deal for the highly-rated midfielder could go a long way in Villa’s attempts for Premier League survival next season.
Four more midfielders Villa could target
Attacking midfielder Camarasa looks likely to leave Cardiff this summer following their relegation and could be an ideal candidate to play alongside Jack Grealish next season.
Borussia Monchengladbach’s holding midfielder Zakaria is regarded as a future star. It would be an outstanding signing if Villa can pull off a surprise deal for the 22-year-old Switzerland international.
Another energetic midfielder Duncan currently plies his trade in Italy with Sassuolo. The 26-year-old appears to be ready to make the move to England and could be tempted over a realistic move to Villa Park.
Huddersfield Town star Mooy is attracting plenty of Premier League interest and would be an excellent addition to Dean Smith’s midfield ranks for the upcoming campaign.
