Villa leading race for Butland
Aston Villa have moved ahead of Bournemouth in the race to sign Jack Butland from Stoke City, according to a report from Football Insider.
The England international looks set to depart the bet365 Stadium this summer, with a return to the Premier League after a season in the Championship on the cards.
Butland appears to be a top target for Villa this summer despite their recent decision to hand current number one Jed Steer a contract extension following his exploits in their promotion-clinching campaign last term.
Stoke are, according to Football Insider, keen to take at least £20 million from the sale of their goalkeeper, and Villa are fighting with Bournemouth to secure his signature.
The 26-year-old was unconvincing for the Potters last season but has previously proven his credentials in the Premier League on numerous occasions.
Butland is a man in demand this summer, but it would appear as though Dean Smith’s club are currently in pole position to land him.
