Villa fail with opening Webster offer

Dean Smith’s side have reportedly seen an opening bid to sign Bristol City defender Adam Webster rejected, according to Bristol Live.

An initial bid of £12 million has been knocked back by the Championship side as they value their centre back closer to the £30 million mark.

The defender only joined from Ipswich in 2018 and made 44 appearances for City last season.

Several other Premier League sides are also said to be interested in the player including the likes of Newcastle, Burnley, Watford, Everton and Southampton, but it is Villa who have tried to make the first move – albeit an unsuccessful one.

Webster’s style of play could suit the Premier League, a centre back who is confident both in the air and with the ball at his feet, Lee Johnson’s side are in no hurry to sell.
