Bent urges Villa to sign Dwight Gayle this summer

Former Aston Villa man Darren Bent has told the club to complete a summer deal to sign Newcastle’s Dwight Gayle.

Speaking to Football Insider, Bent explained why the former West Brom loanee could be a great addition to Dean Smith’s side as they prepare for life back in the Premier League.

Aston Villa have already broken their club transfer record to sign Brazilian striker Wesley this summer, but Bent clearly believes that his former side needs to continue adding to their ranks.

You know who I’d go for actually? Dwight Gayle, because I just think to myself whenever he gets a run in any team he’s played in, in any division, he scores goals but for whatever reason he gets in the Premier League, he might play five games, score three or four goals and then the manager will take him out and he won’t play again for a while.

If you’re going to sign someone like a Dwight Gayle you’ve got to play him week in, week out and he’s maybe one I’d look at. If there’s an opportunity there maybe I’d maybe look there to try and get him in.

Gayle was impressive on loan at West Brom last season, scoring 24 times for the Baggies.

He is now seemingly once again available after falling out of favour at Newcastle, although the managerial situation at St James’ Park could well change that.

Gayle has two more years left to run on his Newcastle deal, so the Magpies could well be tempted by the opportunity to cash in on him if a bid were to come in.
