Leeds open talks with Villa target Phillips over new contract

Leeds United have opened talks with Aston Villa transfer target Kalvin Phillips over a new contract as they look to ward off interest in the midfielder.

The Championship club are looking to tie Phillips down to an extended deal to avoid the possibility of him leaving to move to the Premier League this summer.

According to Yorkshire Evening Post journalist Phil Hay, Leeds are willing to make Phillips one of the highest paid players at the club.

Phillips enjoyed a sensational season with Leeds in the Championship last term and was named in the Team of the Season, as his side finished third in the league.

Villa have been heavily linked with a move for Phillips this summer as Dean Smith looks to improve his midfield options heading into the top-flight.
