The report claims that Mings is set to travel to Birmingham now for talks with Villa over a contract, although he may not have to complete a medical.
Mings spent the second half of last season on loan to Villa from Bournemouth and impressed at the heart of the defence – alongside Axel Tuanzebe, who has now signed a new contract at Manchester United. The 26-year-old scored twice in 15 Championship appearances for Villa.
Villa have already signed Kortney Hause, Wesley, Jota, Anwar El Ghazi and Matt Targett since securing their promotion to the Premier League.
