Aston Villa hold initial Gary Cahill talks
Aston Villa have held talks with former Chelsea defender Gary Cahill, according to the Telegraph, cited by HITC.
The report suggests that initial talks have been held, however, a potential Villa Park return for Cahill still needs work.
The 33-year-old left Chelsea at the end of the previous campaign and has been linked with numerous Premier League sides.
Villa boss Dean Smith recently brought Tyrone Mings back to the club on a permanent basis from Bournemouth and is still keen to add to his defensive options.
Cahill, a former England international, progressed through the youth system at Villa Park and spent four professional years with the club before leaving for Bolton in 2008.
The two-time Premier League winner would bring plenty of top-flight experience to Villa Park, something which Smith is currently short of in his playing squad.
If Villa are keen on bringing the player back to the club, they may well have to act fast or risk missing out on the central defender to a Premier League rival.
