Aston Villa are set to announce the signing of Bjorn Engels, as the defender is also in the USA with his teammates.

Whilst the deal to sign the defender from Reims has not yet been confirmed, the Belgian trained alongside the rest of the Villa team in Minnesota as Dean Smith’s men continue their preparations for their first season back in the Premier League.

Villa have already made seven signings this summer and Engels will soon become the eighth new face at Villa Park in a summer of transition for the Midlands club.

Engels spent last season at Reims on a season-long loan from Olympiacos and the French club wisely paid the purchase clause in his deal. They’ll now immediately sell him on to Villa and make themselves a profit on a player who will have not kicked a ball for them as a permanent signing.

Villa are expected to do more business between now and the end of the summer transfer window.
