Aston Villa will reportedly increase their offer to sign Tom Heaton from Burnley.
According to claims from Football Insider, Dean Smith has given the go-ahead for the club to make a second bid for the England international.
Villa are in the market for a new first-choice goalkeeper this summer, and as such, it seems Heaton has emerged as a top target for the club upon their return to the Premier League.
The experienced shot-stopper is believed to have rejected a contract offer from Burnley earlier on in the summer as he pursues a fresh challenge elsewhere.
Football Insider reports that the Clarets are demanding £12 million for Heaton, and while Villa are unwilling to meet this valuation, they will significantly increase their initial proposal of just £4 million.
Jed Steer was handed a new deal following his efforts in the Championship last season, but Smith is determined to continue the flow of summer arrivals with the acquisition of an established goalkeeper.
Heaton, as per the report, is keen on the prospect of moving to Villa Park.
Other goalkeepers who Villa could consider targeting
McCarthy could leave Southampton this summer. He would be a solid, reliable option.
Dragowski may be on his way out of Fiorentina. He was fantastic at Empoli on loan last season.
Olsen has fallen out of favour at Roma. The Sweden international will likely be available this summer.
Trapp had a good season with Eintracht Frankfurt on loan. He is surplus to requirements at Paris Saint-Germain, though, and could depart. He would be an ambitious signing.
