Douglas Luiz will officially become an Aston Villa player within a couple of days, according to reports.
As per The Telegraph, as cited on the Daily Star, a deal is imminent, despite the fact that the player has already linked up with his new team-mates in the United States.
A £15 million deal to sign the player from Manchester City has been delayed because he needs to have a work permit approved, but that is expected to be done imminently.
Luiz could become Villa’s ninth signing of the summer, with winger Mahmoud Trezeguet also believed to be closing in on a move to Villa Park.
Smith and Villa have not be afraid to splash the cash this summer as they prepare for life back in the top flight and the addition of Luiz from the Premier League champions will certainly be a huge coup for the club.
Why Douglas Luiz will be a great signing for Villa
Top flight experience
Luiz has spent time on loan at Girona in Spain and has top-flight experience under his belt from his spell in La Liga.
Highly-rated by City
Pep Guardiola is a huge admirer of the player and he could have been in the City squad by now if it wasn’t for his work permit issues.
Potential for easy profit
City may well look to add in a buy-back clause, which will allow Villa to make an easy profit on the player later down the line if he goes on to impress.
While it is great that Villa have signed in numbers, they are now also bringing in quality as well as quantity in the form of the Brazilian U23s captain.
