Villa yet to make contact over deal for Phillips

Aston Villa have not yet made contact with West Brom over a potential deal for Matt Phillips this summer.

According to Birmingham Live, via The72, no official move has been made by Villa, despite their reported interest.

The report claims that Villa are keen on a deal for the right midfielder, but are yet to follow up on their interest with a concrete offer.

Sheffield United and Brighton are also said to be keeping tabs on Phillips, with just under a week left before the transfer window slams shut next Thursday.

Phillips struggled with injuries for West Brom in the Championship last season, although he did catch the eye when deployed down the right by Darren Moore.

He could now be offered a way out of the Championship if Villa decide to firm up on their interest and try to add him to their squad.

Dean Smith has already been well backed in the transfer market, spending over £100m on new arrivals so far.
