Earlier this year, Aston Villa were linked with a move for goalkeeper Mohamed El Shenawy, however, it looks like he will moving elsewhere as we can exclusively reveal that he is in talks over a potential move to Premier League giants Manchester United.
We understand that talks have taken place between the Egyptian international and the Red Devils ahead of the January window.
Currently playing his football for Al Ahly, El Shenawy has been heavily linked with a move to the Premier League, with Villa and Arsenal among his previous admirers.
With Joel Pereira away from the club on loan and Lee Grant playing no role in the first-team squad as of yet, United could be looking for an experienced shot-stopper to provide competition for both David De Gea and Sergio Romero, with a possibility of him becoming De Gea’s backup if Romero decides to make a move of his own.
This comes after De Gea suffered a suspected groin injury against Sweden in Spain’s European qualifiers during the week.
The Spaniard is due to miss Sunday’s clash against Liverpool at Old Trafford, but it remains to be seen how serious the injury is.
Romero is poised to start against the league leaders, but this latest blow could leave Ole Gunnar Solskjaer questioning his goalkeeping options.
