Villa fans not happy with Lee Mason as Carabao Cup final referee

On Monday, it was announced that Lee Mason will referee the Carabao Cup final at Wembley next month, but many Aston Villa fans are not pleased with the decision.

The referee will be assisted by Ian Hussin and Harry Lennard, with David Coote named as the fourth official.

VAR will also be in operation and as stated on the EFL website, Mike Dean will be in control of that with Neil Davies assisting him.

Villa overcame Leicester City in the semi-final of the competition, with Trezeguet’s late goal in the second leg at Villa Park securing progression into the final.

Pep Guardiola’s City defeated arch-rivals Manchester United 3-2 on aggregate to secure the trip to Wembley on 1 March.

Mason recently officiated Villa’s 2-0 Premier League victory over Newcastle at Villa Park in November, providing two yellow cards in the match.

These Villa fans took to Twitter to voice their discontent regarding the appointment of Mason as the referee for the final.
