Aston Villa target Chelsea’s Ruben Loftus-Cheek
Aston Villa are interested in signing midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek on a season-long loan from Chelsea according to a report by The Guardian.
Villa are among a host of clubs interested in a temporary deal for the 24-year-old, who has only made one brief substitute appearance this season.
Loftus-Cheek, who has 10 England caps, did not make the matchday squad for Chelsea’s defeat by Liverpool on Sunday.
Frank Lampard then left the attacking midfielder out of the side to face Barnsley in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday, leading to plenty of speculation around his future.
With a wealth of signings at Stamford Bridge, Loftus-Cheek has found himself very much on the periphery of matters and could be seeking pastures new in order to get regular first-team action.
Villa boss Dean Smith could offer the England man a way out as he looks to put the finishing touches his own squad for the season.
Loftus-Cheek has previous form at Villa Park, having scored the opening goal in Chelsea’s 0-4 victory in April 2016.
Loftus-Cheek earned plenty of accolades and credit during his time on loan at Crystal Palace in 2017/18. The London-born midfielder played 25 times that season, scoring twice and assisting five goals.
Despite early links to numerous clubs, Villa’s name circulated with a loan move for such talent should be enough to intrigue the club’s fans.
