Manchester City keen on bring back Douglas Luiz from Aston Villa

Manchester City are keen on bringing Douglas Luiz back to to the club after seeing him impress for Aston Villa, according to the Daily Star.

The newspaper reported that the four-time Premier League winners are considering a move for the Brazilian who they sold to Villa for £15m in July 2019, potentially activating the £25m buy-back clause included in that deal.

The Brazil international joined Villa from the Etihad Stadium in the summer of 2019 and scored three times in 36 top-flight games to help Dean Smith’s side narrowly beat the drop last term.

An impressive start to this season has further enhanced the 22-year-old’s reputation and earned him recognition from the Brazilian national side, playing in Saturday’s World Cup qualifier against Venezuela.

Losing a player of Luiz’s quality could be catastrophic for Villa and Smith. The 23-year-old has proven to be a key player over the last 12 months, carving out a regular place in their starting line-up.

Even though Villa could make a £10m profit on him if the Daily Star‘s report comes to fruition, they may be hard pressed to replace him with a player of similar quality for that amount.
