Aston Villa could sign a striker in January if Wesley Moraes’ return is later than anticipated and Divock Origi, Josh King and Odsonne Edouard have been named as potential transfer targets.
Birmingham Live claimed that Ivan Toney should also be on their wishlist as he’s enjoying a prolific debut season with Brentford.
The 24-year-old has scored 14 goals in 17 Championship appearances, making him the division’s joint-top scorer, so he may be a difficult player to prise from the Bees. Dean Smith successfully lured Ezri Konsa and Ollie Watkins away from Brentford, so he might have some luck with yet another raid on his former club for Toney.
Playing Premier League football should be an attractive proposition for the striker, who had a very brief dalliance in top-flight football with Newcastle five season ago, but time will tell whether Villa make an approach.

Toney joined Brentford for £5m from Peterborough in September and has been outstanding in his first campaign at the Community Stadium. The 24-year-old’s value is likely to shoot up, so Villa may have to pay a lot more than the west Londonders did a few months ago.
In the last 12 months, the Bees have reaped £27.7m on Watkins, £20.8m on Said Benrahma (TBC in 2021/22) and £20m on Neal Maupay, so Toney might cost a similar amount.
In other news, a Champions League-winning Aston Villa target could be made available for sale in January.
