Villa fans praise Matty Cash’s performance against Chelsea

Aston Villa drew 1-1 with Chelsea on Monday evening and Matty Cash was praised by many Villa supporters for his performance.

The 23-year-old saw a lot of the ball, was accurate with his passing, set up Anwar El Ghazi’s equaliser, frequently put balls into the box and was diligent in his defensive duties.

Although he had trouble from Christian Pulisic at times, it was Cash who whipped in a brilliant cross from the right which El Ghazi powered past Edouard Mendy.

The right-back played for 90 minutes at Stamford Bridge, had 53 touches, completed 88.9% of his passes, created one chance, had one shot, whipped in four crosses, won three tackles, blocked one shot, made two interceptions and made six clearances (WhoScored).

The 23-year-old has made 13 Premier League appearances this season, supplying two assists. He has created 10 chances, boasts a 57% dribble success rate, won 20 aerial duels, blocked 20 shots/passes/crosses, made 43 clearances, averaged a tackle (34) or interception (36) every 16 minutes and has only been dribbled past once every 94.5 minutes (WhoScored).

Cash was converted to a right-back at Forest only last season, but he looks at home in the role and has stepped up in his first Premier League campaign. He earned plaudits from these Villa fans on Twitter after his performance against Chelsea last night, with one believing that he is “underrated” given his consistently in recent months:
