Aston Villa should pounce on Alli
Aston Villa aren’t short of creative midfielders with Ross Barkley, Conor Hourihane, Jacob Ramsey and Henri Lansbury on the books, but Barkley is only on loan for the season, Lansbury has been on the periphery all season and Hourihane has only scored one Premier League goal in 2020.
The Villans could do with bringing in a composed player with vision when the winter transfer window opens, so they should consider a move for Dele Alli.
The 24-year-old, who Rafael Van der Vaart tipped to become a “true great” in 2017, has been short of playing time at Tottenham this season and may jump at the chance of getting regular Premier League football for a few months.
Dele has made 11 appearances in all competitions, but he’s only amassed 407 minutes of football. The England international is without a Premier League goal since March, but Ross Barkley’s transformation at Villa Park shows that players can turn their careers around with loan spells away.
Tottenham were open to letting Alli leave in January, but they’re now torn whether to allow him a temporary move due to their injury crisis. Villa should try their hand at signing him, however, as he’d improve the squad and may flourish with more minutes than he’s getting in North London.
