Aston Villa may have signed Emi Buendia to accompany Jack Grealish, Anwar El Ghazi, Trezeguet and Bertrand Traore next season, but the Midlands outfit aren’t finished strengthening their attack in the transfer market.

Ole say Villa are interested in Julián Álvarez and will battle Ajax to procure his signature. The 21-year-old has impressed for River Plate and may be available for £15m.

There’s a lot of talk on Twitter about Villa’s transfer activity as they’re wasting little time strengthening the squad this summer, so fans should be pleased to see the club moving quickly to plug any gaps.

Álvarez has made 69 appearances in all competitions for River, scoring 16 goals with 17 assists. The Argentine international predominantly plays on the right flank but is adept through the middle and one the left, so he’s a versatile player for Dean Smith.

Álvarez could be a bargain buy at £15m with a goal rate of 0.48, but time will tell if Villa can fend off Ajax’s advances. The two clubs might be joined by more clubs in the coming days too, so nothing is guaranteed.
