England lock horns with Germany in the last-16 of the European Championships on Tuesday evening and there’s talk on Twitter of Jack Grealish not making the starting lineup.
David Ornstein of The Athletic reported on Tuesday morning that Grealish was expected to miss out, along with Mason Mount and Phil Foden, leading to a lot of disappointment among supporters.
The 25-year-old assisted England’s winning goal against the Czech Republic on June 22, but Gareth Southgate isn’t going to reward him with another start. Instead Ornstein says Buyako Saka and Raheem Sterling could feature alongside Harry Kane.
Grealish has been criticised by Southgate for his lack of pace and work rate, so Saka looks likely to get the nod after his man-of-the-match performance last week. It’s bad news for Villa fans and the England supporters that admire his creativity, but he might still be introduced from the bench.
If the Three Lions are in need of a goal and have found a chink in Germany’s armour, Grealish would be the perfect player to pick the lock.
