Ian Taylor is enjoying himself this summer if his Instagram story is anything to go by. The 53-year-old, who made 290 appearances in all competitions for Aston Villa between 1994 and 2003, has been drinking with friends while watching the 2020 European Championships and shared a throwback picture with England manager Gareth Southgate when the pair were Villa teammates.

Taylor never represented the England national team like Southgate, but he was a good servant at club level. He’s enjoyed seeing his old teammate lead the Three Lions to their first final since 1966 and had a pint or two with friends in German Gymnasium.
The 53-year-old, who was in the same squad as Southgate 181 times at Villa, had the best throwback snap of their time in the Midlands. They were both long-serving players at Villa and deemed legends by supporters, so it’s nice to see it means just as much to Taylor.
England face Italy in the Euro 2020 final on Sunday and Taylor will be cheering louder than most for his old teammate to win some long-awaited silverware.
