Ollie Watkins posts training picture ahead of pre-season friendly

Ollie Watkins is coming off the back of a fantastic debut campaign at Aston Villa and reposted a picture on his Instagram story to show he’s ready for his second season.

The 25-year-old made the big-money move from Brentford last summer, top scored for Villa last season and was rewarded with multiple England caps. He’s now back in pre-season and could feature in Wednesday evening’s friendly with Walsall.

Watkins has made 40 appearances in all competitions this campaign, scoring 16 goals with five assists. He’s bagged one goal in three England games too and was unfortunate not to make their 26-man squad for the 2020 European Championships.

Nevertheless, Watkins has something to fight for this coming season, so it’s good news for the club and its supporters that he’s raring to go. The meeting with Walsall may be a small indication of how he’s shaping up for 2021/22, but exhibition games are for fitness rather than victories.

The season is only weeks away, so it’s key players get as much match practice as possible.

In other news, Jack Grealish is all smiles as he poses for Sports World Magazine

matchday.
