Aston Villa confirmed Danny Ings as their fourth signing of the summer on Wednesday, landing the former Southampton striker on a three-year deal, and supporters were both shocked and pleased on social media.
Dean Smith has already brought in Emiliano Buendia from Norwich City, Ashley Young from Inter Milan and Leon Bailey from Bayer Leverkusen, so Villa have been a busy club in the transfer window.
Keinan Davis is surplus to requirements and Wesley Moraes is still building up his match fitness after so long on the sidelines, so a new striker was required. Ollie Watkins had a fantastic debut season but would benefit from somebody shouldering the scoring burden.
Ings has bagged 46 goals with 10 assists in 100 games at Southampton, so he knows where the back of the net is. And while surprising to see the signing wrapped up without most of the UK media catching on, fans can’t wait to see Ings in action.
Talk is now on how Villa will line up with both Ings and Watkins in the side, let alone with Buendia and Bailey.
