Aston Villa have been busy in the transfer market this summer, signing Emiliano Buendia, Ashley Young, Leon Bailey and Danny Ings, but they’re yet to bring in a midfielder.

Villa have been linked with James Ward-Prowse, Emile Smith Rowe, Harry Winks and Cheick Doucoure, but Gazzetta dello Sport say they’re after André-Frank Zambo Anguissa.

The 25-year-old joined Fulham from Olympique Marseille in 2018 and has gone on to make 63 appearances in all competitions. Anguissa impressed for the Cottagers despite their relegation to the Championship and has some offers to play top-flight football.

Gazzetta dello Sport add that Everton and AS Roma are challenging Villa for Anguissa’s signature, but the Midlands outfit are in a healthier financial situation. Fans on social media are quietly optimistic about the news as they rate the midfielder highly, but things are still at an early stage.

The Cameroon international has two years remaining on his contract with Fulham, but he was left out of the matchday squad in Sunday’s 1-1 draw with Middlesbrough and it didn’t appear to be injury related.

It remains to be seen if Anguissa will feature against Huddersfield Town on Saturday.
