Aston Villa drew 1-1 with Brentford on Saturday afternoon and Axel Tuanzebe played his part in keeping the Bees at bay. The 23-year-old started alongside Ezri Konsa at centre-back and limited Brentford to only two shots on target over the 90 minutes.
Tuanzebe, who started in Villa’s 6-0 win over Barrow in the League Cup, marked his second full debut with a post on his Instagram story, sharing a number of pictures from the game and revealing his delight to be back at Villa Park.
Tuanzebe is now on his third loan spell at Villa (January 2018 – May 2018) (August 2018 – May 2019) (August 2021 – present), making the switch after Manchester United’s pursuit of Raphael Varane. He replaced Bjorn Engels who left Villa for Royal Antwerp this summer.
It means Dean Smith is now blessed with many options in defence – Konsa, Tuanzebe, Tyrone Mings and Kortney Hause. Villa have conceded only one goal in their last two Premier League games and boast two clean sheets in their previous three in all competitions.
Next up is a trip to Chelsea after the international break.
