Aston Villa enjoyed a 1-0 win over Manchester United on Saturday and Matty Targett and Matty Cash were among the players to impress at Old Trafford, garnering praise from Alan Hutton in the process.
Cash saw a lot of the ball at right wing-back and frequently turned over possession while also providing a threat in the final third. Targett was also good at winning the ball back, but he was also dominant in the air and whipped more balls into the box.
Hutton was delighted with their contribution against the Red Devils and told Football Insider: “Defensively, (Aston Villa) do look good. Moving forward, the likes of Cash has been brilliant, Targett has been very good. Teams will now fear them. The biggest thing for them is how confident they are.”
Cash has made seven appearances in all competitions this season, scoring one goal with one assist. The 24-year-old has been a regular under Dean Smith ever since he arrived from Nottingham Forest in the summer of 2020 and was on the radar of England not too long ago.
Targett has made six appearances across the board this campaign. He’s in his third season at Villa and finds his stock higher than it’s ever been. The 26-year-old has also been considered for England by Gareth Southgate, so Southampton’s loss has truly been Villa’s gain.
