Micah Richards praises John McGinn after Aston Villa beat Manchester United

Aston Villa enjoyed a rare 1-0 win over Manchester United on Saturday and John McGinn was one of many players who impressed. The 26-year-old was effective in both boxes, setting up chances for his teammates while also doing his defensive duties diligently.

McGinn has been in fine form for Villa in the wake of Jack Grealish’s departure this season and Micah Richards was full of praise for the box-to-box midfielder. McGinn is third in the squad for most tackles and interceptions, so Richards has nothing but praise for the Scotland international.

He said on the BBC Radio 5 Live Daily Podcast: “John McGinn, he’s really, really impressed me. He was a bit in the shadow of Jack Grealish and he’s not as technically great, but he gives so much to that team, energy, he runs in behind, he tackles and he’s got everything, he really has.”

Not only is the 26-year-old adept at turning over possession, he’s created the second-most chances in the team this season and is joint-fourth on the list for most successful dribbles. McGinn has been a key player for Villa since his £2.8m move from Hibernian and fully deserves Richards’ praise.

He’s heavily contributed to the Midlands outfit sitting 8th in the Premier League table this campaign and will go down as one of their best pieces of transfer business. Supporters know how valuable McGinn is and wouldn’t trade him for any player in the world.
