Emiliano Martinez went viral over the weekend after playing mind games with Manchester United players before they took a penalty in Saturday’s 1-0 defeat to Aston Villa while winding up supporters after the spot-kick was missed, but he didn’t plan on being quiet after his side picked up all three points.

The 29-year-old posted a picture on Instagram celebrating the win over the weekend and then added two more pieces of content on his Instagram story. The first was a video of his gym room that featured an incredible painting of himself next to a lion.

The second was a picture of Argentina’s squad ahead of the October international break. Martinez is in the team for their World Cup qualifier with Paraguay (October 8), Uruguay (October 11) and Peru (October 15), meaning he’s likely to miss Villa’s meeting with Wolverhampton Wanderers on October 16.

It will be a big blow to lose Martinez, but few can begrudge him playing for his country. He won the Copa America with Argentina over the summer and Dean Smith does have Jed Steer able to deputise.
