Fans on social media slate ‘awful’ Leon Bailey’s ‘terrible’ performance

Aston Villa suffered a 1-0 defeat away to Southampton on Friday evening and Leon Bailey was one of many players slated by supporters on social media for his performance.

Villa’s loss at St Mary’s was their fifth consecutive Premier League defeat and Bailey’s showing in the South Coast earned himself a player rating of 2/10 from Birmingham Live.

Bailey failed to create a chance or whip in an accurate cross and he relinquished possession through an unsupported touch more than his teammates.

Against Southampton, the 24-year-old played for 90 minutes, had 45 touches, won two aerial duels, completed 75% of his 20 passes, created zero chances, had one shot on target, whipped in eight crosses without finding a teammate, made three tackles and had two successful dribbles.

Bailey joined Villa on a four-year deal from Bayer Leverkusen in August and has gone on to make six appearances in all competitions, scoring one goal with two assists. The Jamaican international has amassed just 291 minutes of football from a possible 1170 due to injury, so fans haven’t seen the best of him yet.
