Marvelous Nakamba was short of regular playing time earlier in the season, relying on the odd substitute appearance while being left on the bench at times, but he’s been one of the first names on the teamsheet in recent weeks and has been in fine form.

Nakamba has been expert at turning over possession while displaying composure on the ball and a good eye for a pass, so it wasn’t a surprise that Aston Villa confirmed the 27-year-old as their Villa Player of the Month for November.

He’d put in a series of top-notch performances in midfield and was lauded by supporters on social media after the announcement. Nakamba alongside John McGinn and Douglas Luiz has worked well under Steven Gerrard, so there’s no reason why that won’t continue.

The Zimbabwean international joined Villa from Club Brugge in 2019 and has gone on to make 62 appearances in all competitions. Nakamba wasn’t at his best in his debut season at Villa Park but proved his worth in 2020/21. And with the 27-year-old still delivering in 2021/22, there’s no more talk of an exit.
