Fans on social media ‘hope to keep’ Douglas Luiz despite uncertain future

Douglas Luiz has an uncertain future at Aston Villa as his contract is up in 18 months and he’s yet to put pen to paper on an extension. Fans on social media hope the situation can be resolved as they believe Villa will regret letting him leave.

Steven Gerrard recently admitted to Birmingham Live that Villa hadn’t opened talks with Luiz over a new deal, and the 23-year-old is now attracting interest from Arsenal and AS Roma among others, so there’s a genuine possibility he could leave this summer.

Luiz joined the Villans from Manchester City in 2019 and has gone on to make 94 appearances in all competitions, scoring three goals with eight assists. The Brazilian international has been a regular in midfield and has suitors with more European pedigree than Villa, so he might weigh up his options before committing his future.

Gerrard has bolstered the side with Philippe Coutinho joining on loan from Barcelona, Lucas Digne signing from Everton and Robin Olsen joining on loan from Roma, so Luiz shouldn’t believe Villa have a lack of ambition.
