Michael Thomas ‘would love to see’ Ramsey join Arsenal

Jacob Ramsey is in a rich vein of form for Aston Villa this season and is being considered for an England call-up in March. The 20-year-old has excelled with regular playing time under Steven Gerrard and Michael Thomas believes he’s a player Arsenal should consider signing this summer.

He told Caught Offside: “One player I have been really impressed with is Jacob Ramsey from Aston Villa. I think he has at least another year there but would love to see him join Arsenal.” Ramsey has made 21 appearances in all competitions this season, scoring five goals with one assist.

The England U21 international is Villa’s joint-top Premier League scorer this season with five goals, after bagging a brace in Wednesday’s 3-3 draw with Leeds United, so his stock couldn’t be higher. Though Ramsey would improve most teams in the top-flight, Arsenal aren’t short of midfielders currently.

Mikel Arteta has Thomas Partey, Granit Xhaka, Mohamed Elneny, Sambi Lokonga and Emile Smith Rowe at his disposal, so a move for Ramsey may not be in the offing. That’s good news for Villa as they’ll be desperate to keep him at Bodymoor Heath for as long as possible.

Ramsey has three-and-a-half years remaining on his current deal, so there’s no pressure to cash in if big clubs make an approach.
