Villa should sell Davis this summer

Keinan Davis joined Aston Villa from Biggleswade Town in 2015 and has gone on to make 86 appearances in all competitions since his debut in 2017, scoring six goals with seven assists, but his time in the Midlands might be coming to an end amid interest from Norwich City.

The 24-year-old has never managed to hold down a regular place, however, with 17/46 Championship starts in 2017/18, 4/38 Premier League starts in 2019/20 and 1/38 Premier League starts in 2020/21 – all his league appearances for Villa in 2018/19 and 2021/22 came from the bench.

Davis found himself behind Ollie Watkins and Danny Ings in the pecking order this season, resulting in him being loaned out to Nottingham Forest in January. The 24-year-old has scored five goals and made three assists in 19 games for the Reds and now has the chance to join a Premier League side permanently.

Norwich manager Dean Smith would like to renew acquaintances with Davis, though the Canaries are at risk of relegation, so the striker might be playing Championship football next season. Davis could get promoted with Forest if they stay in the playoffs too, so his future is up in the air.

Regardless, Villa should green light Davis’ departure as he doesn’t have a future under Steven Gerrard and would thrive at a club willing to hand him more opportunities.

In other news, Aston Villa may regret signing Emi Buendia

matchday.
