Aston Villa suffered a 2-1 defeat to Liverpool on Tuesday evening to end their three-game unbeaten run, but Matty Cash can hold his head up after a fine performance at Villa Park.
The 24-year-old started at right-back and made more tackles than any of his teammates over the 90 minutes. No Villa player had more accurate crosses or blocked more shots than Cash while only one player created more chances and had more touches.
Tom Gott of 90min gave Cash a player rating of 8/10 and said he delivered a ‘top performance’ while being a ‘real presence’ in defence. Ashley Preece of Birmingham Live gave the Polish international a player rating of 7/10 and said he ‘did well’ against the title-chasers.
Samuel Bannister of TEAMtalk gave him a player rating of 6/10, praising his brilliant goal line clearance while noting how he got forward as much as possible to supplement the attack. Tim Nash of iNews gave Cash a player rating of 6/10.
Against Liverpool, the 24-year-old had 58 touches, won one aerial duel, completed 71.9% of his 32 passes, created one chance, had one shot, whipped in two crosses with 50% accuracy, made three tackles, had two clearances, blocked two shots and had one successful dribble.
